In view of THEi’s vision to foster Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in the midst of the changing landscape of higher education, the 1st General Education Symposium will be held on 3 June 2021. In addition to several talks on a range of topics, the Symposium will feature a keynote speaker and a guest speaker who will share their creative ideas and thought-provoking insights on the current and future states of education. Our keynote speakerDr Benny NG, Assistant Professor of Los Angeles Pierce College, will discuss gamification and its future applications in General Education as education-related computerized games have become pivotal in engaging and assessing students. He will propose innovative ways for incorporating games into teaching to enhance students’ engagement in self-directed learning beyond classrooms and textbooks.

Our guest speakerMr. Matthew TANG, is the Chief Executive Officer of CLPS and a senior Information Technology manager with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. His presentation, entitled “Seeking Certainty in Uncertain Times: A Critical Reflection on Big Data and its Application“, will explore the possibility of applying big data to General Education curricula. Mr. TANG will further delineate and expound on the benefits and drawbacks as well as the opportunities and threats of big data analytics, resulting in some suggestions on how to strengthen students’ digital literacy in the 21st century.
