To extend a warm welcome and prepare our new students for the degree study, the 2021 New Student Orientation Days were held for FDE and FMH students at the Chai Wan campus on 24 August and for FST students at the Tsing Yi campus on 25 August through the joint efforts of the faculty offices, programme teams, academic support units, the Students’ Union and the SDO.

This year the new student orientation was designed differently to welcome and engage students into the THEi community. It introduced our new students to experience THEi’s spirit and strengths at the start of their learning journey. After a formal welcome by Professor Hong, THEi President, in the welcoming session, an ice-breaking game and an experiential orientation activity enabled students to team up to accomplish some interesting tasks at various checkpoints located in the signature teaching and campus facilities. The campus orienteering was organized in a joint effort between academic departments and supporting units, to showcase the practice-based learning and multidisciplinary collaborative approach embraced by THEi.
The groups of students who scored the highest in the experiential orientation activities received a big prize. The active participation of students in the orientation programme was highlighted. Team work, mutual trust, problem-solving skills and self-learning skills are necessary strengths for future success. At end of the experiential orientation activity, the new students were encouraged to keep the momentum and actively participate in class and campus activities to co-build a vibrant campus in the new academic year.
After the exciting orienteering activity, students attended their programme briefing sessions. The new students were offered the chance to know new people (senior students, teaching and support staff), services and facilities throughout the orientation programme.
